On Monday, gaming platform Discord released the Discord Social SDK, a free developer toolkit designed to let studios directly integrate Discord’s voice, messaging, and party systems into their games worldwide, even for players without an active Discord account.
Seamless Social Integration and Instant Lobby Invites
The new toolkit provides studios with a unified friends list feature, granting players access to their Discord contacts inside the game while simultaneously exposing their in-game friends through the Discord client. Additionally, the SDK implements deep-linked game invites, allowing users to jump directly into a friend’s active party or lobby without navigating complex external menus.

Cross-Platform Communication and Voice Capabilities
Communication within the SDK spans across desktop, console, and mobile platforms via cross-platform messaging. Developers can sync live in-game text chats directly to designated Discord server channels, while also embedding Discord’s native voice chat functionality into their games.
“For game creators from indie to AAA, Discord is where you can connect with the world’s largest and most engaged community of players to fuel the growth of your game before, during, and after launch,” stated Stan Vishnevskiy, Discord co-founder and CTO, in a press release. “Game discovery and retention have never been so critical, and we’re excited to help developers grow their games by reaching gamers where they are.”
Engine Support and Early Industry Adoption
A broad array of development teams has already begun deploying the toolkit, including Tencent Games, Scopely, Facepunch Studios, Theorycraft Games, 1047 Games, Mainframe Industries, and Elodie Games.
Technical Requirements and Platform Reach
The Discord Social SDK currently offers full compatibility with C++, Unreal Engine, and Unity, running natively on Windows 11+ and macOS. Discord confirmed that native support for mobile operating systems and home consoles is currently under development and scheduled for release soon.
The strategic release leverages Discord’s massive user footprint, which currently exceeds 200 million monthly active users logging over 1.5 billion hours of gameplay each month on PC alone.
