Electronic Arts blocked over 330,000 attempts to cheat or bypass security controls during the open beta weekend for Battlefield 6, moving swiftly after players reported widespread hacking across social media.

Immediately following the launch of the open beta, gamers flooded online platforms with complaints regarding encounters with hackers on YouTube, Reddit, and X. In response, a representative from EA’s anti-cheat team—identifying as AC—disclosed on an official forum that the system recorded 104,000 player reports of potential cheaters within two days, while successfully intercepting 330,000 direct tampering attempts.

Kernel-Level Security and System Access

To combat software manipulation, Electronic Arts utilizes Javelin, a kernel-level anti-cheat mechanism that operates with the highest administrative permissions on a user’s computer. This architecture mirrors solutions used in competitive titles like Valorant, enabling the software to inspect background processes and uncover unauthorized programs disguised as normal operations.

The Function of Hardware-Based Secure Boot

Alongside Javelin, EA mandates the use of Secure Boot, a hardware-level Windows feature designed to prevent unauthorized code from running at startup. However, EA acknowledged the limitations of technical safeguards in eliminating cheating entirely.

“On Secure Boot, I want to be clear that Secure Boot is not, and was not intended to be a silver bullet,” AC stated in the forum update. “Secure Boot is how you’re helping us build up our arsenal. It’s another barrier that helps us make it harder for cheat developers to create cheat programs, and makes it easier for us to detect it when they do.”

The developer emphasized that anti-cheat enforcement remains a continuous, dynamic process rather than a permanent fix, noting that strategies effective in one game do not always translate directly to others.

An Electronic Arts spokesperson confirmed that updated figures regarding permanently banned accounts are currently unavailable.
